This book presents a critical consideration of literary theory and methodology developed within Western modern and postmodern cultures, but imposed on Oriental literatures. It strongly argues for the application of Oriental theories and methodologies, for the appreciation of Oriental literatures. There is as yet no other book that discusses issues in the context of current developments within literature and related disciplines with such clarity and comprehensiveness. This book contributes significantly towards the development of an appropriate discipline of literary knowledge, and a national corpus with its own identity.
