KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak became the first author to hold a book-reading session organised by the Malaysian National Institute of Translation (ITNM) yesterday.
Najib's book, Menakhoda Zaman, which also appears in an English version entitled Helming the Times, was chosen by ITNM for its first ever book-reading programme, which was held at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2010.
During the brief but packed session attended by the public, Najib read 23 lines from chapter 5 of the book.
The book, which was launched in October, contains his thoughts and opinions on facing challenges, fulfilling destinies and effecting positive changes.
Najib also urged readers to strive and rise to the occasion to spur the nation's progress for the benefit of the country and society as a whole.
About 100 copies of Menakhoda Zaman were snapped up at the ITNM booth during Najib's visit.
Accompanying Najib at the session were National Library director-general Datuk Raslin Abu Bakar and ITNM managing director Mohd Khair Ngadiron.
After the book-reading session, Najib went on a tour of the book fair, spending about 45 minutes visiting various booths and speaking to exhibitors.
The book fair, held at the Putra World Trade Centre, ended yesterday.
