Malaysian scholar: Marketing is main problem with Muslim world publication industry

Tehran, June 20, IRNA – A Malaysian scholar and publisher said here Sunday that marketing is a major problem facing Muslim publishers today.

“We are not actually looking thoroughly on marketing. How we want to market our product is compared to our counterpart – western publishers. They have every possible way to publish their books and will reach people across the borders but Muslim publishers only look into importance of promoting their product. That’s one of our big problems,” Mohd Khair Ngadiron, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Malaysian National Institute of Translation, told IRNA here when asked to comment on problems facing Muslim World publishers now.

In an interview with IRNA on the sidelines of the International Conference of Islamic World Publishers, the Malaysian scholar said second problem with the Muslim world publishes is “We are not actually looking forward.”

Asked to comment about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s address to the inaugural meeting, he said no many Muslim leaders do look so seriously into publishing as the Iranian president does.

As for copyright, he said Islam too has mentioned of people's ownership. “Our copyright should be less cumbersome as compared to western model of copyright.”

Asked to comment on western sanctions against Iran, he said that’s selective move.

The first international Muslim publishers meeting opened in Tehran Sunday.

Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini, Iranian President's advisor Hamid Molana, Head of Culture and Islamic Relations Organization Mehdi Mostafavi, Secretary General of the International Society for Proximity of Islamic Schools Ayatollah Taskhiri and a number of Iranian and Muslim publishers are taking part in the meeting
